Second Chance Records is a record shop in Portland, Oregon. We are not in the data business. This page says plainly what we collect, what our advertising cookies do, and how to opt out of both.
What we collect
Only what you type into one of our two forms:
- Newsletter signup — your email address, and nothing else.
- Contact form — your name, email address, an optional subject, and your message.
We also count form submissions per visitor to stop spam. Your IP address is cryptographically hashed before it is stored, and the raw address is never written to our logs or our database.
We do not ask for, store, or process payment details on this website. Purchases happen in the shop or through our Discogs storefront, which has its own privacy terms.
Cookies and advertising
This site uses the Google tag for Google Ads. It sets first-party cookies in your browser that let Google recognize a return visit and show you our ads elsewhere on the web. This is called remarketing. It also records that a page was viewed, so we can tell whether our advertising is doing anything at all.
We do not use these cookies to identify you by name, and we never combine them with your email address or anything you sent through a form.
You can switch this off, in any of four ways:
- Turn on Global Privacy Controlin your browser, or install an extension that sends it. We check for that signal on every page and skip the advertising tag entirely when we see it — nothing loads, so there is nothing to opt out of. Some browsers call it “Tell sites not to sell my data.” How to enable it.
- Turn off personalized advertising in your Google Ad Settings.
- Install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- Block or clear cookies in your browser settings. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
How Google handles data it collects on partner sites is described in their own policy.
Embedded content
Our Visit page embeds a Google Map so you can find the shop. Google may set its own cookies when that map loads. Our Instagram photos are copied to and served from our own site, so viewing them does not report anything back to Instagram.
If you subscribe, we send occasional news about new arrivals and events through our email provider, Resend, which stores your address in order to deliver the message. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. You can also just email us and ask to be removed.
What we never do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers named above who need it to deliver an email or run our advertising.
Asking us to delete your information
Email us and we will remove your address and any message you sent. You do not need to give a reason, and you do not need to live anywhere in particular for us to honor it.
